Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Birth Control for Acne...what an amazing concept
Using birth control for acne proved very effective for me and can do the same for you.
My Experience with Ortho Tri-Cyclen:
It was during a routine check-up with my Gynecologist, she noticed my blemished skin and after further evaluation, she determined that I suffered from hormonal acne. Hormonal acne is acne that occurs a week or so prior to your menstrual period.
My Dermatologist suggested that I try the oral contraceptive, Ortho Tri-Cyclen. She also informed me that Ortho Tri-Cyclen was approved by the FDA for treating acne. Me...using birth control for acne?? I must say, my Gynecologist caught me off guard and I was a bit skeptical, at first. A pill that prevents pregnancy and helps control acne. I've always considered myself an open minded person, so I gave it a try. Hey, what did I have to lose? If I had a chance to clear my acne...I was going to give it a try. Ortho Tri-Cyclen,
Birth Control for Acne? Yes, and its been proven to work effectively on mild to moderate types of acne.
I remember rushing to my Pharmacist, dropping off my prescription, having it filled and immediately starting my medication as soon as possible. Well, I am happy to say my skin began to clear. In the beginning, I did experience some mild side effects such as spotting and breast tenderness, but I didn't care...my skin was looking good and my acne was under control. Fortunately, I did not experience any of the stronger side effects such as: • mood swings (sometimes violent)
• weight gain
• nausea
• darkened skin
How does using Ortho Tri-Cyclen, Birth Control for Acne work:
It's simple. With hormonal acne (acne breakouts that take place a week or so, before your menstrual cycle) Ortho Tri-Cyclen works by preventing acne breakouts, because it contains the female hormone estrogen. Estrogen is known for its wonderful ability to neutralize the efficiency of androgens. Remember androgens? They are responsible for stimulating our sebaceous glands, which then produce excess sebum (oil), which then combines with dead skin cells,
make-up,
sweat, bacteria--which results in clogged pores which lead to ACNE! Estrogen has the ability to neutralize androgens. When this takes place, acne is reduced and sometimes ELIMINATED! Using
Birth Control For Acne is wonderful Oral Acne Medication.
Unfortunately, Oral Contraceptives are not for everyone:
Be sure to discuss with your Doctor your complete health history. As with all Oral Contraceptives, there is some risk involved such as, but not limited to: • blood clots
• heart attack
• stroke
Also, if you smoke, you increase your chances of these and other side effects, especially if you are over the age of 35.
