Learn what to do when it comes to cosmetics and acne

beautiful black woman applying makeup acne free skin.jpgBelieve it or not, cosmetics and acne can have a negative connection. Yep, the cosmetics that you apply to your face could be causing your acne.

It’s important to read your labels and know if the make-up you are using is oil or water based.

Oils, greases and even hair dyes can worsen your acne, so read your labels or ask. For this reason, water based make-up is less likely to cause your skin problems.

It’s important to look for noncomedogenic make-up, (make-up that does not clog your pores).

Recently, I stumbled upon this amazing make-up, Bare Minerals by Bare Escentuals! This make-up is truly incredible! My skin literally feels and looks better since I started using it.

This make-up is made from 100% pure bare minerals. That means it’s free of irritants such as preservatives, talc, perfumes and yes…oil free! And here’s one of my favorite parts, it also contains SPF 15.

Cosmetics and acne could play a part in the many types of acne you deal with.

Products such as acne cleansers and acne toners are often used to aid in your acne treatment. These products help remove sebum (oil) from your skin’s surface, but do not decrease sebum (oil) production; it’s the frequent and aggressive scrubbing with these products that can actually cause your acne to worsen.

The frequent washings cause an overproduction of sebum (oil) and then you start the acne cycle all over again.

For me, I notice when I wash my face only 2 times per day and spend 2 minutes or less, followed by a cool splash of water, there’s improvement in my skin. Less is best and not scrubbing, but gently exfoliating. So don’t get carried away with excessive washing.
