So, if nodule acne is my most dreaded acne...then cystic acne is his brother...

Like nodule acne, I find cystic acne to be deep, huge and painful. This type of acne seems to stay with me just as long as nodule acne. As a matter of fact, these two types like to show up and hang out together.

Cysts are soft sac-like lesions, filled with fluid, usually pus. They are large, about 5mm in size (these are big boys), sometimes severely inflamed and extend deep under the skin. Like nodule acne, this form of acne can cause scarring. You do not want to pick or squeeze these lesions! Doing so may create further inflammation, infection and scarring.

Along with the other serious forms of acne, cysts can wreak havoc on ones face, body and self esteem.

It is important to recognize this type of acne for what it is…SERIOUS. You need professional help from a dermatologist to gain control of these breakouts. You must tackle this acne externally as well as internally.

Thankfully, with good treatment options, I have control over this type of acne, and so will you!

My experience, products which contain Glycolic Acid are the only over-the-counter (OTC) acne treatment products that has shown to have a positive effect on nodular and cystic acne.

Still, your dermatologist will evaluate your skin and its condition, then recommend a course of treatment. No doubt your dermatologist will prescribe an oral acne medication for your cystic acne .

Remember you must tackle this acne externally with a good over the counter acne medication or prescription acne medicine and internally with oral acne medication .

Just as importantly you'll need a good acne cleanser, acne toner and acne moisturizer which includes a sunscreen.
