Taking Minocycline for acne...the other Oral Acne Medication

You may want to consider taking Minocycline for acne if you are ready for "the other oral acne antibiotic", with fewer side effects.

Some think this is the best medicine for acne and is usually prescribed for people who are unable to tolerate Tetracycline.

Minocycline for acne has been around for many years, over 30 years to be precise.

How Does Minocycline Work For Acne:

Minocycline works by attacking the growth of bacteria and reducing inflammation. That can be good news to someone who suffers with inflamed types of acne. Minocycline reduces the redness, swelling and tenderness associated with inflamed acne.

You've probably already guessed, that makes Minocycline for acne an excellent oral acne medication for pustules, papules, and cystic acne.

How To Take Minocycline:

As I mentioned earlier, Minocylcline is usually tolerated better than Tetracycline and with fewer side effects and is easier to take.

The usual dosage for this medication is taken in 50mg or 100mg capsules and taken 1-2 tmes per day. Minocycline is usually taken with food.

Due to its possible serious side effects, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are Not Allowed To Take Minocycline. Minocycline is known to cause skeletal deformation, similar to the acne medication Accutane and permanent discoloration to teeth of a developing fetus.

Speaking of possible side effects, take a look at some additional side effects with Minocycline and be sure to discuss these with your Dermatologist.

Possible side effects with Minocycline

• Headache

• Vision problems

• Dizziness

• Skin rash

• Hives

• Joint pain

• Fever

• Sore throat

• Depression

Please keep in mind, no matter how mild a side effect may seem, be sure to report any and all body and health changes to your doctor immediately.

Taking Minocycline can also cause your skin to become sensitive to the sun’s rays, causing sunburn. So, be sure to cover up and use a good acne moisturizer with SPF.
