Don't mistake your pustules for whiteheads...

…they do look a little similar, but pustules are considered moderate acne, not mild like whiteheads .

These inflamed dome shaped lesions are filled with yellow or white pus with a red circle around them.

single pustule The pus contains a mixture of bacteria, dead skin cells and white blood cells.

You form this type of acne when there is a high break in the follicle wall. That’s when white blood cells go to work and try to fix the problem, and pus is formed.

Getting control of this type of acne is not as difficult as the more serious types of acne .

Pustules are inflammatory lesions that respond well to products which contain Benzoyl Peroxide. Benzoyl Peroxide can be found in many over the counter acne treatments or prescription acne medicines.

In addition to Benzoyl Peroxide products, I’ve had great experience with Murad’s Acne Spot Treatment! This is a wonderful product that contains 3.0% Sulfur. The trick to Murad’s Spot Treatment is to use it consistently, throughout the day. It literally shrinks those blemishes right up!

Remember, a good acne cleanser should:

• Contain a good bacteria fighting agent
• Gently exfoliate

A good acne toner should:

• Be alcohol free
• Refresh and tighten pores

A good over the counter acne treatment or prescription medicine should:

• Help control and prevent future breakouts

A good acne moisturizer (yes, even for oily skin) should:

• Hydrate
• Be hypoallergenic
• Non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores)

If you have uncontrollable breakouts, I would then recommend a visit to your dermatologist for oral acne medication such as Accutane or Tetracycline, to aid in your treatment.
