Tetracycline For Acne…Very Popular, Because It's Very Effective!

Considering oral acne medication?

Tetracycline for acne is one to strongly consider.

Set up an appointment with your Dermatologist, and there is a good chance he will start you on this oral antibiotic . Why?

Because...

oral acne medication2.jpgThis safe and effective oral antibiotic has been used for over 50 years, and has a proven track record of success in controlling acne. Tetracycline for acne is an oral antibiotic which is commonly used as oral acne medication.

When it comes to treating acne, this oral antibiotic is primarily used for the treatment of inflammatory types of acne such as papules and pustules. By attacking and reducing the acne bacteria (p.acnes), Tetracycline for acne reduces the amount of inflammation, thus controlling papule and pustule acne.

As mentioned earlier, you will need to visit your Dermatologist for a prescription in order to obtain this oral acne medication.

Most likely your Dermatologist will prescribe Tetracycline for acne for a length of 6 months or less. It's also very common to have your Dermatologist place you on continuing therapy at a lower than normal dosage.

As with all antibiotics, there is a chance your body will eventually become resistant to its effectiveness. That's not such a bad thing, because your Dermatologist will simply prescribe another form of oral acne medication.

How is this medication prescribed for acne:

Tetracycline is prescribed in capsules and liquid form. In the treatment of moderate and severe acne, the typical dosage is 500-1000 milligrams per day and taken 2-4x per day. If your Doctor feels your acne is the severest of severe, your dosage may be higher.

Once your acne begins to improve, your Dermatologist will lower your treatment dosage.

How to take Tetracycline for acne:

It is important to take this medication exactly as prescribed by your Doctor. This oral antibiotic is not to be taken with food. Take this medication at least 1 hour before any food or at least 2 hours after any food. Be sure to take Tetracycline each time with at least 8 ounces of water. It is especially important to not eat or drink dairy products with Tetracycline, doing so may interfere with the absorption of this medication.

Be sure to share with your Doctor if:

• you are allergic to Tetracycline or any antibiotic related to it such as Doxcycline or Minocycline. Better yet…tell you doctor of all medication you are allergic to.

• you take anything containing Magnesium such as laxatives, calcium supplements, antacids or iron products.

• you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant or if you are breastfeeding.

Like Accutane, Tetracycline has the potential of causing harm to the fetus.

Tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant.

It’s important to discuss with your Doctor if you have a history of diabetes, kidney or liver disease.

While taking Tetracycline, your skin may become sensitive to the sun’s rays. During your treatment, try to limit your exposure to the sun. When going outside, be sure to use a good moisturizer with a SPF of 15 or higher.
